Now's the time to stock up on shoes, gear bags, headgear and more.
The two best times to refresh that wrestling wardrobe are the dead of summer after the collegiate and scholastic seasons have long ended and right now — as the season gets underway and companies shift into Black Friday mode.
We're here to help you separate the signal from the noise and highlight some of the best deals for wrestlers. Let's get into it.
RUDIS
The wrestling powerhouse always goes big for Black Friday and this year is no exception. Right now they're running a 25% off sale on everything they stock, and 30% off for all their shoes. You can read our guide to buying wrestling shoes here but the tl;dr: Rudis makes great-looking, mostly reliable footwear for every kind of wrestler.
ADIDAS
The german sportswear giant outfits more wrestlers than perhaps any other company. Through Black Friday their Adidas Wrestling site is offering 30% off sitewide for their VIPs, a free loyalty program that takes 10 seconds to sign up for. Adidas is another good option for wrestling shoes, plus they have decent stock singlets if you've been looking for a new one.
DICK'S SPORTING GOODS
Dick's isn't the largest stockist of wrestling gear, but they do carry all the essentials, often for less than the manufacturers themselves. Case in point: Nike Tawas — normally $150, and currently on sale for $112.50 during Nike's own Black Friday sale — are a few bucks less at Dicks, and can be returned at any Dick's location if they don't fit, instead of having to ship them back to Nike. Right now Dick's also has a pair of Rudis Colt 3.0s — the same ones, in fact, that yours truly owns and loves — on sale for $36, fully a third of what I paid. I'm definitely not bitter about it or anything.
TAKEDOWN
Takedown has grown into one of the largest suppliers of wrestling singlets in the world. Their online customizer even allows you to design your own singlet (and other gear like fight shorts) in minutes. The quality is decent, though nowhere near as nice as ones you can get from Rudis, Cliff Keen, Adidas and more. That said, they're hard to beat on price, especially on Black Friday. A fully customized singlet will run you just $39 instead of their usual $59, plus you can find similar savings on their stock singlets and fight shorts, too.
ASICS
These guys do wrestling shoes better than anyone, but they don't have much to speak of in terms of Black Friday deals — at least not through their own site. You'll probably be better off shopping for Asics shoes at larger retailers like Dick's or WrestlingMart.com.
CLIFF KEEN
The OG wrestling suppliers don't have a huge retail presence, preferring instead to work directly with colleges, high schools and other teams to outfit their athletes. But they're not totally absent from the scene, and are running a 15% off deal starting on Friday through Cyber Monday on their site. It's not a huge discount, but a rare one from one of the oldest providers of singlets and other apparel essentials.
