Vol. 4: MARK. YOUR. CALENDARS. 🤼‍♂️

Happy Mothers Day, wrestlers!

Let’s cut straight to the chase. We are a go!

That’s right: we can finally give you the date, time, and location of our first-ever practice! To those of you who have subscribed for months — thanks for your patience. To those who subscribed in the last few days — good timing.

I won’t leave you hanging, let’s talk details. First, we will be throwing a kickoff informational session/mixer on Wednesday, June 5 at 7pm! You may have noticed at the top of this email we have our first sponsor — Kiki, the awesome bar on U Street in Shaw. They are kicking in some funding to help get us off the ground, and are hosting us on June 5. We will talk through our plans for practices and answer any questions you have about the club, about us, about wrestling in general. Plus it’s a chance to meet fellow wrestlers and club members over a drink or two! Come on by and learn what we’re all about.

Speaking of practices! Until we are able to secure a longer-term space in the L’Enfant Plaza area, the wrestling coach at Frank W. Ballou High School in southeast DC is graciously letting us use their mat space for weekly practices. Our first one will be on Monday, June 10 from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Weekly practices will be held at the same day, time, and place for at least the first few weeks. Check out the requirements page on our website for some important information on attending practices.

Details on fees, accessing the gym, transportation, etc. will follow as we get closer to our first practice, and will also be shared at the informational session on June 5. If you would need or want a ride to or from practices — or if you yourself are able to fit an extra body or two in your car — please let us know and we can try to arrange a carpool for any interested members.

If you are considering attending either the informational session or the first practice (or both!), please let us know by filling out this quick form. If you have any questions about either event, don’t hesitate to reach out to districtwrestling202@gmail.com.

Match of the Day: Brian Tiu

That's our very own club co-organizer Brian Tiu, picking up a pin at the Mat Return Classic in Allentown, PA a few weeks ago. He took home a bronze medal in the novice 30+ category in the 180lb weight class!
