District Wrestling Named DC's Best Recreational Sports League – Again

Back in July, District Wrestling was named the city's Best Recreational Sports League by Washington City Paper. We were thrilled and proud of the recognition then, so imagine our surprise when the Washington Blade doubled down this week, naming District Wrestling their Editor's Choice for DC's Best Amateur Sports League in their annual Best of LGBTQ DC awards.
We are, once again, honored to be recognized – first by voters who selected us as one of five finalists, then by the Blade staff – as a safe, inclusive and fun place to learn, practice, and compete in DC. We take great care to ensure that our wrestling mats are also welcome mats, and that nobody feels intimidated or excluded regardless of their experience level, age, gender or sexual identity.
District Wrestling was founded in the Summer of 2024 with three goals: to provide any and all adults in the DC area with a club that is commited to all aspects of the sport of wrestling; to help build a solid infrastructure for wrestling at the scholastic level in Washington, DC; and to grow LGBTQ representation in the sport. To be recognized by two of the leading publications in the nation's capital is a gratifying sign that we are making progress toward these goals.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us in our first few years, whether by attending our practices and events or voting for us in these polls. Check out the full Best of LGBTQ DC Awards here.
