Vol. 2: Securing Mat Time, plus a Wrestlers Meet-Up

Greetings wrestlers,

We’ve got a few promising updates for folks that we wanted to share. Last week, we had a very productive conversation with the executive director and operations manager for Beat the Streets DC. If you’re unfamiliar with them, Beat the Streets (BTS) provides after-school wrestling lessons and programming for at-risk DC students.

BTS has been operating out of local high school wrestling rooms for some time, but they are about to land their own facility in the next few weeks — and we’ve been invited to share the space! We are in conversations with them regarding schedules and facility access. We can't share too much just yet, but the space checks all of the boxes we mentioned last week: affordable, easily accessible by public transit, and consistently available.

Speaking of schedules, we have some early results from our survey and it seems like weekends and Monday/Thursday evenings are popular options so far. If you haven’t had a chance to weigh in on what days for a weekly, 2-hour practice work best for you, feel free to fill out our survey here.

In anticipation of our practice launch date, we are planning to hold an informational happy hour in late February/early March. This will be a chance to meet fellow teammates, hear about our big plans for the club, and learn how to help the club grow. Keep an eye out for an invitation, we’d love to see you there.
