Happy (almost) summer, wrestlers.
District Wrestling’s kickoff week is mere days away, starting with an informational session and mixer hosted by our friends (and club sponsors!) at Kiki on U Street on Wednesday, June 5. If you haven’t already, you can RSVP — to both the mixer, and our first practice on Monday, June 10 — by clicking here.
What you can expect at the informational: more details on practices and other events; answers to your questions about how the club will operate and grow; opportunities to get involved; details on requirements for all wrestlers; and more. Plus, we’ll have some club swag to share, and the first opportunity to purchase some club gear (we have a few shirts, shorts, and singlets available!)
Can’t make the info session? Be sure to pay us a visit at the Team DC table at the Pride Festival on Sunday, June 9! District Wrestling will be manning the table from 5pm until close at around 7pm, we can answer any questions there too.
We start practices on Monday, June 10 at Ballou High School! Practices will start at 6:30pm and go until 8:00pm. Attendees must wear gym-appropriate attire (t-shirts and shorts or sweats) or singlets, as well as wrestling shoes for practices. If you don’t yet have a pair of wrestling shoes, bare feet are ok for now. For health and safety reasons, no socks or sneakers are allowed on the mats. More details can be found here. Each wrestler’s first practice will be free, and just $20 after that. In the future, we will likely also be offering discounted packages, but more on that later!
As always, if you have any questions reach out to districtwrestling202@gmail.com. Hope to see you next week!
Match of the Day: Kyle Dake
Kyle Dake is at least in the conversation for greatest U.S. wrestler of all time — 4 NCAA titles at 4 different weight classes (still the only person to accomplish that feat), 3 world championship titles, the list goes on. The one accolade left: a gold medal at the Olympics. Watch the match that secured him a spot on Team USA for the 2024 games in Paris.
